Last updated: Wednesday, Oct 19th, 2022 6:15PM
On Monday evening (2022-10-17), the virtual town hall to hear the Etobicoke—Lakeshore candidates for councillor in the 2022 Municipal Election drew a large crowd. Over 130 attendees viewed part of the town hall, and over 106 were present for the entire 90 minute meeting.
The town hall was moderated by the Reverend Brian McIntosh. The candidates who were present were Mark Grimes (The incumbent), Bonnie Hu, Amber Morley, and Marco Valle. Mary Markovic sent her regrets that she would be unable to attend. Zeynel Ari was expected, however some unknown circumstance prevented him from attending. Links to each of the candidates websites / Facebook page can be found at The Toronto Election Website.
Following the debate, the moderator, Brian McIntosh, stated “Our Etobicoke Lakeshore Town Hall proved once again that local organizations can make a difference and uphold the democratic ideal of debate, and that people both deserve and want the opportunity to meet and hear from their political candidates. Now we simply urge people to get out and vote!”
Mark Grimes stated “These past four years have highlighted the importance of having experienced leadership at City Hall. Despite a global health crisis, we’ve made some incredible progress in Etobicoke-Lakeshore. We’re rolling out new traffic safety tools, approving more affordable housing, taking action on climate change, investing in our public spaces, building more transit, and supporting our local business community. We have to keep moving forward, and I am the only candidate with the necessary experience to continue leading Canada’s biggest ward.”
Amber Morley stated “We have heard loud and clear from residents that they want a Councillor that will listen to, understand and address their concerns. They want a Councillor that will centre their voices. This is at the core of our Community for All message. Amber Morley has a vision for Etobicoke-Lakeshore where housing affordability is a priority, where our residents can count on safe, efficient and accessible transportation which makes space for transit, bikes, cars and pedestrians. Amber Morley will work to build an Etobicoke-Lakeshore where neighbours can work, play, and travel through resilient and vibrant neighbourhoods, and do all of these things in a way that addresses our climate future.”
In due course, this news release will be updated to contain a quote from each of the candidates who participated, as they become available.
