- Care for the environment
Our primary mission is to combat the Climate Crisis by reducing our Greenhouse Gas Emissions in how we live our lives in Etobicoke (as well as Ontario, Canada, and Globally), and to do so leaving no one behind.- Retrofit existing buildings to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Innovative and integrated approaches to transportation including “complete streets” that encourage non-polluting forms of transportation and healthy, active walking and cycling.
- Protection of the natural environment via protection and enhancement of existing biodiversity and ecosystems in our parks, ravines and gardens.
- Meaningful reduction of waste production, elimination of single use plastics and excess packaging, reduction of food waste, etc., and movement towards a “circular economy.”
- Advocacy Goals
Advocacy with all three levels of government – municipal, provincial, and federal:- Identify and advocate for the election of “climate sincere” politicians at all levels of government.
- Identify legislation and projects which should be supported, as well as legislation and projects which should be opposed – and work to support or oppose as appropriate.
- As well, we will work to identify and support businesses and organizations which are actively working to improve their environmental footprint.
- Information Sharing
To act as a public education and outreach centre, communicating to residents and businesses in Etobicoke knowledge about climate change, the climate action plans of the three levels of government, and actions available to us to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our communities:- Use our website, blog, YouTube channel, and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter) to share information about resources, campaigns, and events which focus on environmental issues with citizens and businesses in Etobicoke.
- Organize town hall meetings, events, and debates which focus on environmental issues.
- Publish and share the results of those town halls, debates, and other events.
- Group Coordination Centre
To coordinate efforts between groups acting within the community, municipality, province, federally, and globally to best assure that efforts to educate, inform, and take action are effective.
